Description
The title of the book Dictée (1982) by poet and performance artist Theresa Hak Kyung Cha refers to dictation – a hegemonic, linguistic, patriarchal instrument – and the hidden and visible violent power structures and fantasies to which (female) bodies and their voices are subjected. Following the methodology of fragmentation and voids the performative reading interweaves passages from Dictée with self-written fragments as well as excerpts from Herbert Melville’s ‚Bartleby the Scrivener‘, Ingeborg Bachmann’s ‚Malina‘, Jacques Derrida’s ‚Gesetzeskraft: Der mystische Grund der Autorität‘, Félix Guattari’s ‚Everybody wants to be a fascist‘, Kendrik Lamar’s ‚Money Trees‘ and Gigi D’Agostino’s ‚L’amour toujours‘ creating a contemporary echo inmidst uprising right-wing ideologies, fascist movements and authoritarian forces through vocal passages, rhythmic structures of speech with musical accompaniment.
